Mali will receive the 3rd International Forum on Fair Tourism from October 20th 2008 to October 22nd 2008.
The forum will be preceded by international on site workshops. Moreover, the 1st International Tourism exhibition will take place from 17th to 19th October 2008 in Bamako, as well as the Conference of the West African Secretaries of Tourism.

The FITS is initiated by NGOs and other associations, with the support of the French government, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Tourism. Its purpose is to organize the big international meeting on fair and responsible tourism every other year.

The first two meetings were held in Marseilles , France , in autumn 2003 and in Tuxtla Gutierrez , Mexico , in spring 2006, in the presence of the President of the Mexican Republic , the French Minister Delegate for Tourism , the secretary-general and other WTO's officials .


The FITS is meant for the following public :
- Administrations concerned with the development of responsible tourism
- International and bilateral organizations that provide support for actions in development
- Fair tourism networks and stakeholders from the whole world.

The objectives are :
- Heightening governments awareness of the specificities of fair tourism
- Exchanging and debating about the stakes of fair tourism within the context of sustainable development
- Exchanging experiences
- Networking local operators in contact with organisations from issuing countries.

THE SETTING UP : An international steering committee has been set up for the authorities from Mali, the French Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Tourism, as well as various international and national tourism organizations .
This committee is opened to representatives from other countries willing to play an active part in this 3rd FITS.

THE LOCATION :
The forum will be held at the International Conference centre in Bamako.


INTERNATIONAL ON SITE WORKSHOPS :

They consist in taking the participants on site in order to show them projects which exemplify fair and responsible tourism in Mali.

They will take place from 15th to 18th October 2008.
The number of participants allowed in each workshop will be limited to 25, i.e. a full total of 100.

These workshops will offer an opportunity to notice the efforts which have been made in Mali in terms of "alternative" tourism .They will also give the opportunity to analyse the current situation, reflect on it and exchange with other participants.

They will take place in the following areas :

Siby, region of Mandé
Tériyabougou, region of Ségou
Bandiagara, region of Dogon
Somankidi-Koura, region of Kayes

West African Travel Market is an initiative facilitating co-operation between tourism businesses from West Africa and the European travel trade. West African Travel Market is an open platform where local businesses and communities, international tour operators, investors, non-governmental organizations and governments can meet to support a sustainable development of the tourism sector in West Africa. It is established as a permanent initiative offering an integrated set of instruments and actions such as an online market place, international marketing support and an annual West African Travel Market Business-to-Business event. In 2008, this B2B-event called the ‘Mboka 2008 West African Travel Market” will take place in Banjul, The Gambia (October 18-22).
